The Liturgy of the Word
First Lesson: Genesis 1:1-2:4a
In the beginning when God created the heavens and the earth, the earth was a formless void and darkness covered the face of the deep, while a wind from God swept over the face of the waters. Then God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light. And God saw that the light was good; and God separated the light from the darkness. God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And there was evening and there was morning, the first day.
And God said, “Let there be a dome in the midst of the waters, and let it separate the waters from the waters.” So God made the dome and separated the waters that were under the dome from the waters that were above the dome. And it was so. God called the dome Sky. And there was evening and there was morning, the second day.
And God said, “Let the waters under the sky be gathered together into one place, and let the dry land appear.” And it was so. God called the dry land Earth, and the waters that were gathered together he called Seas. And God saw that it was good. So God created humankind in his image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them. God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth and subdue it; and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the air and over every living thing that moves upon the earth.” God said, “See, I have given you every plant yielding seed that is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree with seed in its fruit; you shall have them for food. And to every beast of the earth, and to every bird of the air, and to everything that creeps on the earth, everything that has the breath of life, I have given every green plant for food.” And it was so. Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all their multitude. And on the seventh day God finished the work that he had done, and he rested on the seventh day from all the work that he had done. So God blessed the seventh day and hallowed it, because on it God rested from all the work that he had done in creation.

HOLY BAPTISM
The Presentation and Examination of the Candidate
The parents, godparents, and candidate come forward for the presentation and examination.
Priest The Candidate for Holy Baptism will now be presented.
Parents & Godparents I present William John Gifford to receive the Sacrament of Baptism.
The priest asks the parents and godparents
Will you be responsible for seeing that the child you present is brought up in the Christian faith and life?
Parents & Godparents I will, with God’s help.
Priest Will you by your prayers and witness help this child to grow into the full stature of Christ?
Parents & Godparents I will, with God’s help.
The priest asks the following questions of the parents and godparents, who speak on behalf of the candidate
Question Do you renounce Satan and all the spiritual forces of wickedness that rebel against God?

Thanksgiving over the Water
The priest blesses the water, first saying
The Lord be with you.
People And also with you.
Priest Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
People It is right to give him thanks and praise.
The priest continues
We thank you, Almighty God, for the gift of water. Over it the Holy Spirit moved in the beginning of creation. Through it you led the children of Israel out of their bondage in Egypt into the land of promise. In it your Son Jesus received the baptism of John and was anointed by the Holy Spirit as the Messiah, the Christ, to lead us, through his death and resurrection, from the bondage of sin into everlasting life.
We thank you, Father, for the water of Baptism. In it we are buried with Christ in his death. By it we share in his resurrection. Through it we are reborn by the Holy Spirit. Therefore in joyful obedience to your Son, we bring into his fellowship those who come to him in faith, baptizing them in the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
At the following words, the priest touches the water
Now sanctify this water, we pray you, by the power of your Holy Spirit, that those who here are cleansed from sin and born again may continue for ever in the risen life of Jesus Christ our Savior. To him, to you, and to the Holy Spirit, be all honor and glory, now and for ever. Amen.
The Baptism
The priest baptizes the candidate, saying
William, I baptize you in the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
The forehead of the newly baptized is then marked with the sign of the cross using Chrism, saying
William, you are sealed by the Holy Spirit in Baptism and marked as Christ’s own for ever. Amen.
The priest presents a candle to the newly baptized, saying
William, receive the light of Christ, a sign of the new life enkindled within you. Amen.
The priest then prays over the newly baptized, saying Let us pray.
Heavenly Father, we thank you that by water and the Holy Spirit you have bestowed upon this your servant the forgiveness of sin, and have raised him to the new life of grace. Sustain him O Lord, in your Holy Spirit. Give him an inquiring and discerning heart, the courage to will and to persevere, a spirit to know and to love you, and the gift of joy and wonder in all your works. Amen.
Priest Let us welcome the newly baptized.
People We receive you into the household of God. Confess the faith of Christ crucified, proclaim his resurrection, and share with us in his eternal priesthood.

Holy and gracious Father: In your infinite love you made us for yourself, and, when we had fallen into sin and become subject to evil and death, you, in your mercy, sent Jesus Christ, your only and eternal Son, to share our human nature, to live and die as one of us, to reconcile us to you, the God and Father of all.
He stretched out his arms upon the cross, and offered himself, in obedience to your will, a perfect sacrifice for the whole world.

We celebrate the memorial of our redemption, O Father, in this sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving. Recalling his death, resurrection, and ascension, we offer you these gifts.

Sanctify us also that we may faithfully receive this holy Sacrament, and serve you in unity, constancy, and peace; and at the last day bring us with all your saints into the joy of your eternal kingdom.

Spiritual Communion: Act of Reception

We are excited for this year’s VBS program! We will be learning all about the Trinity. This year’s program is geared toward children ages 5-13 but we need helpers of all ages. We are looking for youth who want to attend, youth who want to be helpers, adults to help with the activities and adults to help with food. A photo of each individual panel was taken at close enough range to enlarge the photo on your phone or computer screen and read the contents. You will be able to review each panel at your leisure and even save it on your device as an ongoing reference if you wish. And don’t forget, an even more extensive history is available in the book “A History of St Paul’s Church,” available in the church office. The price of the book is $30.

Gift Card Collection
The Outreach Committee will be collecting supermarket gift cards for the families of Doyle and the Immigrant Rights Group for the next several weeks. Summer is a rough time for families with children home for the summer and not getting lunches at school so any help we can give will be greatly appreciated. It would be great if everyone could get $25 cards to local supermarkets like Acme, Weis, Giant and Aldi. Or you can contribute money and we will get the cards. Community Meal
Thank you to everyone who volunteered to help with the May 28th Community Meal. We served 15 people, more than any other Community Meal we have hosted. Your generous gifts of food, gift cards and your time to those in need is wonderful and greatly appreciated. Please watch for the signup sheet for the next Community Meal which is scheduled for June 25. Thank you in advance for your continued help and support. Mary Lou Parry, Outreach Committee.
Drivers needed for the Community Meal
Please consider being a van driver or attendant for the monthly community meal. To qualify, an online course offered by Code Blue (CSSH) must be taken. If we have the needed van driver and attendant, we would be able to provide meals to people in Warminster that are unable to get to St. Paul’s because of the distance. If you are interested, please contact Mae O’Brien using the church directory and she can provide additional details. Thank you very much for your help and support.
Summer Office Hours
During the summer months, the church office hours will be reduced on Friday afternoons. From June 16 through August 25, the office will close at noon on Fridays. In September, the office will once again resume its normal schedule.
Christmas in Doylestown UPDATE:
We are so blessed to have several parishioners step up to be shepherds of the various tasks required to make our lovely House Tour happen for 2023!!! Thank you all so much!!!!
Widgette Kelly has taken on the tea, stay tuned to see how she “reimagines” it.
June Psculkowski has taken on the butter cookie baking, so do not panic our famous cookies will once again be available this year!!!
Wendy Brumbaugh will once again handle the PR for the event, so we are sure to have a great turn out.
Please look in the future for them reaching out for help because we know it takes a parish for this whole event to come together!!!

SOCIAL JUSTICE COMMITTEE

CARING FOR FRIENDS
Caring for Friends has resumed our meal packing at the church. Our next meeting will be Saturday, June 17 from 9:30-11:30am. We are asking for anyone who would like to cook at home to bring the food to church on the 17th to pack. Please include a list of ingredients for all meals. Casseroles with a protein source, meats like meatloaf, chicken, beef, turkey breasts with a side of rice or potatoes are some other ideas. Donations of canned goods are appreciated, especially fruits and vegetables. Hope you can make it. Please contact Myra Parker, Mary Smith, or George Wiemann with any questions.
LITTLE FREE PANTRY
The Little Free Pantry continues to be a huge asset for the community. Your kindness and generosity are greatly appreciated by those suffering from food insecurities in the area. The need continues to be great for supplies such as snack bars, small cereal boxes, fruit cups, pudding and Jell-O cups, pretzels, and crackers. Thank you for your help and support. Questions? YOUTH FORMATION: VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
Hello St. Paul’s Family! We are in need of some adults and teens who are interested in helping out with Youth Formation. If you are interested in helping the youth explore new ideas and gain a better understanding of who God is in their lives, please reach out to Maureen McGraw or Elizabeth Pitts. This would only take a commitment of about an hour or so every 2-3 months and would involve helping to answer questions and helping with different activities. Please sign up to help here.
