Second Lesson: Hebrews 13:1-8, 15-16
Let mutual love continue. Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for by doing that some have entertained angels without knowing it. Remember those who are in prison, as though you were in prison with them; those who are being tortured, as though you yourselves were being tortured. Let marriage be held in honor by all, and let the marriage bed be kept undefiled; for God will judge fornicators and adulterers. Keep your lives free from the love of money, and be content with what you have; for he has said, “I will never leave you or forsake you.” So we can say with confidence, “The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can anyone do to me?” Remember your leaders, those who spoke the word of God to you; consider the outcome of their way of life, and imitate their faith. On one occasion when Jesus was going to the house of a leader of the Pharisees to eat a meal on the sabbath, they were watching him closely.
When he noticed how the guests chose the places of honor, he told them a parable. “When you are invited by someone to a wedding banquet, do not sit down at the place of honor, in case someone more distinguished than you has been invited by your host; and the host who invited both of you may come and say to you, ‘Give this person your place,’ and then in disgrace you would start to take the lowest place. But when you are invited, go and sit down at the lowest place, so that when your host comes, he may say to you, ‘Friend, move up higher’; then you will be honored in the presence of all who sit at the table with you. For all who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.”
He said also to the one who had invited him, “When you give a luncheon or a dinner, do not invite your friends or your brothers or your relatives or rich neighbors, in case they may invite you in return, and you would be repaid. But when you give a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, and the blind. And you will be blessed, because they cannot repay you, for you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous.”

The Sermon
The Nicene Creed Said in unison
We believe in one God,
the Father, the Almighty,
maker of heaven and earth,
of all that is, seen and unseen.
We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ,
the only Son of God,

God from God, Light from Light,
true God from true God,
begotten, not made,

For us and for our salvation

Holy and gracious Father: In your infinite love you made us for yourself, and, when we had fallen into sin and become subject to evil and death, you, in your mercy, sent Jesus Christ, your only and eternal Son, to share our human nature, to live and die as one of us, to reconcile us to you, the God and Father of all.
He stretched out his arms upon the cross, and offered himself, in obedience to your will, a perfect sacrifice for the whole world.
On the night he was handed over to suffering and death, our Lord Jesus Christ took bread; and when he had given thanks to you, he broke it, and gave it to his disciples, and said, “Take, eat: This is my Body, which is given for you. Do this for the remembrance of me.”

We celebrate the memorial of our redemption, O Father, in this sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving. Recalling his death, resurrection, and ascension, we offer you these gifts.
Sanctify them by your Holy Spirit to be for your people the Body and Blood of your Son, the holy food and drink of new and unending life in him. Sanctify us also that we may faithfully receive this holy Sacrament, and serve you in unity, constancy, and peace; and at the last day bring us with all your saints into the joy of your eternal kingdom.

Spiritual Communion: Act of Reception
During Communion, you are invited to say the following prayer form for receiving Spiritual Communion. Know that the grace of God is made present in your heart, even though the Sacrament is not received with the mouth.
In union, blessed Jesus, with the faithful gathered at every altar of your Church where your blessed Body and Blood are offered this day, I long to offer you praise and thanksgiving, for creation and all the blessings of this life, for the redemption won for us by your life, death, and resurrection, for the means of grace and the hope of glory.
I believe that you are truly present in the Holy Sacrament, and, since I cannot at this time receive communion, I pray you to come into my heart. Memorial Service for Deborah Howard Taylor

A memorial service for Deborah Howard Taylor will be held at St. Paul’s Church on Friday, September 9 at 1:30pm. Deborah passed away at the end of last year, and family considerations prevented us from holding a service for her until now. Please join us for this service in remembrance of her, and also spread the word to those in our wider community who knew and loved her.

FROM THE SOCIAL JUSTICE COMMITTEE
The Diocese of Pennsylvania offers Anti-Racism training through their Anti-Racism Commission. It is part of the work of the Diocese, in living up to the Loving Presence Publication and the Gospel, to help as many Episcopalians understand anti-racism and become trained anti-racists. The next ARC training is the prerequisite session entitled, Introduction to Systemic Racism, and will be offered on August 27th. The session entitled, Racism and Identity, will be offered on September 24th. You can find out more by following this link to the Diocese webpage. Contact chair Jim Massey with any questions. Outreach Committee Updates
The Little Free Pantry has proven to be very successful and as a testament to that, we are in need of replacements like peanut butter, boxes of cereal, small water bottles, nuts, and snack bars without chocolate. Thank you for any donation you can make.
St. Paul’s will be joining other local churches to provide a Community Meal for the homeless. We will provide a meal on the fourth Sunday of the month. Our first meal is scheduled for August 28th @1pm. In the beginning, the meals will be provided by Outreach with the hope of expanding the invitees after the first of the year to other local social agencies in the area. If you would like to help with the donations, gift cards to Wawa, McDonald’s, Wendy’s in the amount of $5.00 each would be greatly appreciated. If you do get gift cards, please just use the places mentioned and only in $5.00 increments...those are the rules from CSSH.

We will be having a Welcome Back Picnic on Sunday, September 18 at Burpee Park (on the corner of Oakland Ave and Church St), beginning at 11am.
