Christmas in Doylestown

The Christmas in Doylestown House Tour and Boutique is sponsored by Saint Paul's Church to raise funds for the local homeless shelter and various projects at Saint Paul's. Over the years, Saint Paul's has donated over $80,000 to the Bucks County Housing Group to benefit the Doylestown Homeless Shelter. This multi-level event takes place on the first weekend in December to coincide with Doylestown's First Friday. This year, four borough homes, decorated inside and out, will be featured on the house tour. Paxson Hall is transformed to a festive holiday boutique, featuring Tea for house tour ticket holders, and a full array of baked goods, our famous butter cookies, custom greens, gifts for the holiday, the Christmas Attic, Raffles & Refreshments.

Confirm not Conform

Confirm not Conform explores the beliefs and questions that come from the
students themselves. The debate and discussion sparked by the students ignite
their faith into something lively and real. CnC takes the idealism and
skepticism that co-exist in young people and uses that energy to help youth
become engaged with their faith and their community. Youth believe something and the church needs
to hear it. That’s the basis for Confirm not Conform (CnC).<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

Rather than imparting information from the outside, Confirm not Conform
explores the beliefs and questions that come from the students themselves. The
debate and discussion sparked by the students ignite their faith into something
lively and real. CnC takes the idealism and skepticism that co-exist in young
people and uses that energy to help youth become engaged with their faith and
their community.

In addition to 16 class sessions, CnC students go on field trips, attend a
weekend-long retreat, work with mentors, participate in liturgies, and design
and implement a service project as a team.

Confirm not Conform is a program that celebrates
young people’s spirituality, creativity and responsibility. Over the course of
the CnC program, students come to believe we’re serious about giving them a
voice and, when they claim it, the results are amazing. The program not only
energizes youth; it strengthens and engages the whole congregation. In allowing
our young people to grow, we end up growing our whole community.

This program is for youth 12 and older. The class will meet every Sunday from 9:30 to
10:15 AM (unless previously notified) in the Library in the Education
wing.Â

Our History

Saint Paul's owes its birth to one woman - Elizabeth Pawling Ross - who in the 1840s was the only Episcopalian in Doylestown and who rode by horseback to Germantown once each month to receive Holy Communion. Perhaps at her encouragement, the Reverend George P. Hopkins journeyed to Doylestown from Philadelphia to see if he could stir any interest in founding a congregation here. The first service was held at Beneficial Hall (now the Masonic Hall) on State Street on May 18, 1845. For two years Mr. Hopkins "commuted" by stagecoach from Philadelphia to conduct a weekly service. In April, 1846, the parish was formally organized and shorlty thereafter land purchased and money raised to build a church building. The first services in the church were held on April 23, 1848.
